  Alutec Floor Outlet Installation

Composition

The Alutec range of Floor Outlets consist of the body assembly, clamping ring and trap dip tube to create the trap where applicable. The floor gratings are supplied as separate components.

To produce a moisture seal, the clamping ring compresses sheet waterproofing membrane against an ‘O’ ring seal recessed into the outlet body. Where an asphalt membrane is used, the ‘O’ ring should be removed to allow the asphalt to be dressed into the groove.

The clamping ring incorporates a “weep hole” to allow any moisture trapped between finished floor and the waterproofing membrane to drain away. A plug is fitted to the weep hole to allow for pipe pressure testing after installation. Thereafter the plug should be removed and discarded.

The trap dip tube can be cut on site to suit various levels of screed. The floor outlet body has an integral stop to prevent the trap dip tube from projecting too far into the body. The trap dip tube is designed to fit between the two parts of the floor grating and is supplied with a rubber sealing gasket to make a waterproof joint.

The range of grate assemblies available suit virtually any floor finish. The 150mm spigot length can be cut to size giving greater flexibility when installing to different screed thickness. The grates also allow for rotation to suit tile grids. The clamping ring supplied with both the untrapped and trapped floor outlets is reversible and can be installed in a high or low position. The following table shows the height variation with the clamping ring in either the high or low position.

Connections

Alutec Floor outlet spigots are suitable for direct connection to 75mm/100mm I.D (82mm/110mm O.D) BS4660: 1989 / BS EN1401: 1998 PVCu underground drainage pipework. To connect to clayware drainage systems Marley adaptors, UCA40 and UCA41 can be used. For the 75/82mm outlet version, a reducer, URM304 will also be required. The Floor outlet spigots are also compatible with cast iron pipework to BS416/EN877.

Side inlet connections

The side inlet boss versions of trapped outlets: DF335, DF435, DF345 have a 2” BSP female thread to BS21.

• To connect to muPVC or ABS solvent weld pipework to BS5255: 1989, use connector, code: DRH9.

• To connect to copper pipework, use proprietary male iron to copper fitting or adaptor, DRA2 with coupling, DRH5.
• To connect to cast iron pipework to BS416/EN877, use adaptor, DRA2 and coupling DRH5.
PTFE tape should be used on threaded joints.

Maintenance

Both trapped and untrapped floor outlets should be periodically inspected.

Trapped units should have the grate and trap dip tube removed and any accumulated silt cleared from the sump on a regular basis.

All grates should be removed and periodically cleaned with a hard bristle brush to remove any accumulation within the grating slots.

Air Pressure Testing

Air pressure testing of trapped floor outlets connected to the drainage system should be carried out prior to the floor screed/floor surface being laid. To achieve a successful air test, the following is recommended:-

• All joint/seal faces must be clean and free from grit or debris.

• Prior to securing the clamping flange over the waterproofing membrane, apply PTFE tape or silicone sealant under the washers to the four stainless steel bolts that retain the clamping ring. This ensures air cannot escape through the thread of the bolts when subject to a pressure test.

• To ensure an air tight seal between the waterproofing membrane and clamping flange, apply silicone sealant Ref: SC101 to both contact faces prior to securing flange.

• Apply silicone lubricant Ref: SZ56 to the rubber ‘T’ ring seal fitted into the clamping flange and to the grating assembly 110mm dia inlet pipe, to allow free telescopic height adjustment of the grating.

• When assembling the grating and dip tube, ensure that the flat rubber washer is placed under the brass funnel inlet prior to clamping down the grating.

• Ensure that the "weep hole" in the clamping flange is plugged off during testing. This must be removed on test completion
